Search for a Location
From mid-June onward, the light in Italy changes. It sets late, filters through for a long time, and casts soft shadows that don’t exist at 11 a.m. in January. Photographers and filmmakers know this well: summer is the season that makes everything easier visually, but more complicated logistically.
Competition for locations is heating up, the best dates get booked quickly, and operational variables are multiplying: how the light behaves during shooting hours, how to get to the locations, how to manage the heat, and where to work when the August sun beats down on glass surfaces. Finding the right location is never just a matter of aesthetics. In the summer, it's even less so.
Ask4Location Select summer locations in all of Italy: villas with swimming pools on the Sardinian and Sicilian coasts, historic estates among the olive groves of Salento, Tuscan farmhouses with vineyards, designer apartments on Lake Como, and scenic properties in Liguria and Calabria. We don’t choose based on appearance: we choose based on logistics, accessibility, and compatibility with the production schedule.
Fashion brands, advertising agencies, music labels, beauty and food companies: they’re all looking for summer content. A villa with a pool for a swimwear campaign. A country house in the hills for a sneak peek at the lookbook. A rooftop with a panoramic view for an editorial photo shoot. A private cove for a music video.
Each format has its own requirements. One shooting Fashion photography calls for architecturally clean spaces, few distracting elements, and controllable lighting. A lifestyle video calls for lived-in spaces, textures, and details that tell a story. An advertising production requires ample floor space, wide entrances, and areas to set up equipment and temporary sets. There is no such thing as the perfect summer location in an absolute sense—there is only the right one for that particular project.
The best dates are booked weeks in advance. Those who wait until the last minute are left with the scraps.
It’s not just set design. In a summer photo shoot, the pool is a reflective surface that changes with the light, a body of water that separates the interior from the exterior, an element that works on its own or as a backdrop. In a swimwear campaign or in a lifestyle editorial, is just as much a part of the story as the garments or the designs.
Our database includes villas with swimming pools in Lombardy, on the Lake Como and in the province of Lecco, where the light from the water blends with that of the mountains. In Sardinia and in Sicily, where private properties offer views of the sea. In Apulia between Lecce and Brindisi, with restored farmhouses that blend tradition and contemporary design. In Tuscany, between Siena and Arezzo, among vineyards and olive groves. In Campania, on the Gulf.
Before confirming, it’s a good idea to check a few practical details: the times of day when sunlight hits the pool, whether there are shadows cast by trees or nearby structures, the suitability of the pool deck as a workspace, the availability of indoor changing areas, and the distance from vehicle access points.

The sea is one of the most evocative settings, but also one of the most difficult to manage. Wind, reflected light, difficult access for heavy equipment, and a lack of shelter all require much more careful planning than any indoor space.
The locations on the sea The ones that really work for film productions are those that combine access to the coast with covered spaces and support areas. A villa with a terrace overlooking the sea, with an indoor space where makeup, costume changes, and equipment can be handled, is often much more efficient than an open beach. Perhaps less picturesque, but more practical.
Our listings include beachfront villas in Sicily, in the provinces of Syracuse, Trapani, and Messina. In Sardinia, in the provinces of Sassari and Cagliari. Properties with direct access to the bay, villas with panoramic terraces overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, spaces overlooking the Gulf of Naples. Each has different exposure times and varying degrees of accessibility: that is why the site inspection It always counts before confirmation.
The Lake Como, the Lake Garda, the Lake Maggiore. These are settings unlike any others in Italy. The light on the water, the deep shades of green and blue, the historic villas with their terraced gardens: they work for luxury photo shoot, high-fashion editorials, and productions for international brands.
Lake Como and the province of Lecco offer contemporary-style villas overlooking the water and homes with private docks. Lake Garda is more accessible from Veneto and southern Lombardy, with a wider variety of properties. Lake Maggiore, located between Verbano-Cusio-Ossola and Novara, is often less crowded in the summer and offers views of the Borromean Islands that rarely disappoint.
For those looking for lake scenery in lesser-known settings, there are also Lake Orta in Piedmont, Lake Lugano in the province of Como, and Lake Lecco—three areas with very different landscapes.
Not all of summer is spent by the water. Country farmhouses in Tuscany, farmsteads in Salento, historic estates nestled among olive groves, and rural villages with their inner courtyards: these are among the most sought-after locations for fashion lookbook, beauty campaigns, editorial photo shoots e food products.
In the provinces of Siena, Arezzo, and Grosseto, there are renovated farmhouses with swimming pools and gardens, located in the Val d’Orcia or the Crete Senesi. In Apulia, in Salento and the Murgia, the farmhouses feature stone courtyards, rustic kitchens, trulli, and rural architecture that no artificial set can replicate. In Piedmont, in the Langhe And in Monferrato, farmhouses and country estates are used for activities related to wine, gastronomy, and rural lifestyle.
These locations require careful consideration of logistics: heavy vehicles may not always have easy access, and services may not be as readily available as they are in an urban setting. Ask4Location It accompanies each selection with a concrete assessment of the operational aspects, not just the aesthetic ones.
Aesthetics are the starting point. But there are at least five things to check before finalizing any summer location:
The process always starts with a brief: type of production, number of people involved, lighting requirements, desired style, dates, duration, approximate budget, and geographic area. Based on this information, the agency proposes a selection of venues with detailed descriptions, floor plans, and up-to-date photographs.
If the correct location isn't in the online archive, search in the’offline archive or a targeted search is launched in the area. Support continues into the next phase: site inspection, negotiations with the owner, contract, permits, coordinating with suppliers during filming.
The location is already half the story. Choosing it well—even before turning on the first lamp—is what makes all the difference.
